Chris Robison joined the SSA as Policy Director in May 2004. He leads on policy matters for our members ensuring that the voice of governing bodies of sport in Scotland is heard at the highest levels. Chris also sits on the SSA Board.
Chris works in close partnership with sportscotland, the Scottish Government and other key organisations to ensure that policy and legislation are developed and implemented in ways which benefit sport.
Chris sits as a member of the Parliamentary Cross Party Group on Sport at the Scottish Parliament and has developed excellent working relationships with many MSP's. He is a respected source of information and advice for Parliamentary researchers and leading journalists.
SSA also keeps abreast of UK-wide and European policy matters and Chris often works closely with his counterparts in England, Northern Ireland and Wales. He is increasing the organisations impact within the wider voluntary sector and now sits on the Policy Committee of the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations. This makes sure that the voice of sport is heard within the sector.
Chris brings a breadth of experience to the role. After 17 years in the Royal Navy, as a helicopter navigator and captain, he worked as a Local Authority athletics development officer and spent five years in a variety of roles with Scottish Athletics. More recently, he completed a secondment with the Scottish Government Sports Division where he led a review of the National Strategy for Sport - Reaching Higher
