The Scottish Sports Association (SSA) is the independent voice of sports governing bodies in Scotland.
The SSA's principal role is to lead and facilitate consultation and to represent the collective view of member governing bodies. This purpose was defined when the SSA was set up in 1983.
We work hard to:
- Consult, represent and inform our membership effectively
- Inform and influence the Scottish Parliament and the Scottish Government
- Inform and influence sportscotland
- Consult, network and work in partnership with these and other agencies to shape, strengthen and promote sport in Scotland
The SSA also helps its members respond to change and provides a focus for working on common interests.
There are currently 51 Full Members and 17 Associate Members.
Governing bodies provide a formal structure for the thousands of amateur and professional sports clubs in Scotland. As well as governing individual sports our members perform a wide range of other essential functions. These include:
- promotion of the sport
- providing coaching resources
- providing competitive opportunities from grass roots to elite and youth development
Full membership of the Association is open to governing bodies of sport and physical recreation.
Associate membership is offered to other appropriate organisations.
Membership' applications and subscription fees are considered for members at the Annual General Meeting which is held in September.
